Aromatherapy Tea Tree
Melaleuca alternifolia
This essential oil is distilled from the leaves of the Australian and
New Zealand tea tree. In New Zealand it is called "Manuka." The
common English name is "tea tree" because it was brewed as a tea
substitute by early English settlers of New Zealand. Tea tree oil is
another gentle oil that can be used neat, placing directly on
cuts to
clean, disinfect, and alleviate pain. It is invaluable in a first aid kit for
use as an antiseptic in treatment of cuts,
fungus, and
infection. Tea
tree oil is extremely effective in aiding the
immune system, helping
the body to fight disease. It has a spicy, medicinal aroma. Tea tree is
one of the most scientifically researched oils.
Tea tree is safe to use neat on the most delicate parts of the
body and has been successfully employed during war times
when medicines were in short supply. This oil is gaining
