Irregular Or Delayed Menstruation
As young women begin their journey into womanhood, their hormones take
several months or even years to regulate and develop a smooth rhythm or cycle. A
similar hormonal metamorphosis occurs at the completion of the fertile years of
a woman's life. As women enter the menopausal years, their cycles often take
months, even years, to completely stop. During this time, irregularity is often the norm.
Frequently, irregular menses can be regulated by simply drinking
mugwort tea. Mugwort belongs to the wonderful
artemisia family. All of the artemisias are of particular interest to
women, but especially mugwort. Its peculiar name simply implies it was the herb (wort)
of the mug, thus mugwort. Mugwort has long been used as an herb for young women to help
regulate their menstrual flows. It is very bitter, however, and will need to be blended
with more pleasant-tasting teas or made into a tincture.
Supplements and herbs
ON A DAILY BASIS
- Take Hepatonic Tea or Liver/Endocrine Tonic Tea. Drink two to four cups daily.
LIVER/ENDOCRINE TONIC TEA
-
Use one teaspoon of mixture per cup or four to six tablespoons per quart. Add herbs
to cold water and bring to a slow boil over low heat. Simmer gently for twenty minutes.
Strain. Store in a quart jar or thermos.
- Take evening primrose, black current seed or borage oil in capsule form. Take 500 milligrams twice a day or follow the dosage recommended on the bottle.
- Take Endocrine Strengthener or Liver/Endocrine Capsules as a tincture. Take one-fourth teaspoon two to three times daily.
ENDOCRINE STRENGTHENER
This strong, rooty blend is bitter and rather unpleasant-tasting, and is therefore best
when used as a tincture or when powdered and capsulated. It is indicated for the more
serious signs of hormone imbalance in young women such as
acne, painful
menstruation, delayed menstruation, and heavy bleeding. The suggested amount is two "00"
capsules morning and evening or one-fourth teaspoon of tincture three times daily.

LIVER/ENDOCRINE CAPSULES
This potent formula is an excellent medicinal formula. It cleanses and strengthens
both the liver and the endocrine glands, while nourishing and building the entire
system. It is recommended for serious hormonal imbalances that manifest themselves in
depleted energy levels, dramatic mood shifts, painful and irregular menstrual cycles,
and/or lack of menstruation. Because of its bitterness, this formula is also recommended
for use in tincture or capsule form. The suggested amount is two "00" capsules morning
and evening or one-fourth teaspoon of the tincture three times daily.
- 1 part yellow dock root,
- 2 parts hops,
- 2 parts dandelion root,
- 1 part kelp powder,

Prepare as a capsules
- Take two capsules of dong quai daily. Don quai is available in herb and in capsule form. Or you can purchase the powdered herb and encapsulate your own.
- Take liquid Floradix with iron
daily (or another liquid vitamin/mineral formula). Follow the dosage
recommended on the bottle. You can make a similar formula by following the recipe for
Iron-Plus Syrup.
IRON - PLUS SYRUP
This is an excellent formula for women of all ages to take for adding easily digestible
vitamins and minerals to their diet. Iron-Plus is high in iron,
calcium,
vitamin A, and a
host of trace minerals. With the addition of concentrated fruit extracts and
sweetener, it
is a tasty liquid vitamin/mineral supplement.
-
Follow Steps for making syrup.
After removing from heat, stir in two teaspoons of
spirulina powder and two
teaspoons of nutritional yeast for each pint of syrup you've made. Add
one-fourth cup brandy and one-fourth cup fruit concentrate. Fruit concentrates are concentrated extracts of fresh fruit and add additional vitamins and
minerals as well as a delicious fruity flavor.
Do not add juice, as it will dilute the syrup and encourage possible fermentation. The
suggested dosage of iron-plus syrup is four to six tablespoons daily.
- Take a biochelated calcium supplement daily.
Follow the recommended dosage on the bottle.
- A young woman's menstrual cycle will often be delayed or stop altogether due to a
lack of nutrients in the diet. A lack of protein, in particular, can cause this. Be certain
that there is an adequate supply of good-quality protein in a young woman's diet,
especially if she is active in sports. The High-Calcium Protein Shake
is an excellent nutritional snack and can be drunk a couple of times daily by an active young person.
HIGH - CALCIUM PROTEIN SHAKE
This is a delicious, nourishing breakfast for all teenage girls. It takes
only a few minutes to mix up and ensures an adequate supply of calcium, protein,
vitamins, and minerals.
- 1 cup milk,
- 1 cup no sweetened juice (experiment with different flavors),
- 1-2 bananas,
- 1/4 cup frozen strawberries (or fresh fruit when it's in season),
- 1/4 cup yogurt,
- 1 teaspoon bee pollen
protein powder (follow the proportions listed on the container),
- 2 teaspoons spirulina,
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract.
WHEN THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE IS DUE
- Drink two to three cups of pennyroyal leaf tea daily. To prepare, use four to six
tablespoons of herb per quart of water. Pour boiling water over the herbs, cover, and infuse
for twenty minutes. Strain.
- Rub a little pennyroyal oil over the pelvic area in the evening before bedtime. (But
please apply it sparingly and do not get the oil near the sensitive vaginal opening as it
may irritate delicate vaginal tissue.)
