Graphites

Graphite / Plumbago

Graphites

Graphite is a form of carbon and is the main constituent of pencils. The name graphite comes from the Greek word graphein, meaning to write." Graphite is also used in lubricants, polishes, batteries, and electric motors. The homeopathic remedy was proved by Hahnemann, who learned that workmen in a mirror factory were applying graphite to heal cold sores. Graphites is excellent for skin complaints and problems with the metabolism.

Uses

Graphites is a key remedy for skin complaints, especially weeping eczema with a honey like discharge that often occurs behind the ears and the knees, on the palms of the hands, and on the nipples.

This remedy is good for people with a metabolic imbalance that may cause skin complaints, such as psoriasis and dry, cracked skin; cuts that easily become infected and pus-filled; scar tissue that hardens; keloids (raised, itchy scars); and abnormal nail formation where the nails are thick, cracked, and misshapen. Obesity may result due to an inability to absorb nutrients correctly.

Graphites is also used to treat the following conditions: ulcers caused by a weakness in the stomach lining (these are better when lying down and from eating hot food, and may alternate with skin complaints); cold sores; hair loss; cramps and numbness in the hands and feet; occasional hot sweats following nosebleeds; and swollen glands.

Graphites is also good for excess mucus production, especially if blowing the nose hurts because of cracks on the skin; eczema may accompany the condition.

In women, Graphites is given for infrequent, scanty, or absent menstruation; enlarged ovaries; swelling of the breasts; and late menstruation with constipation.

Source

Graphite is found in Sri Lanka, Mexico, Canada, and the US.

Personality profile

Graphites is not often thought of as a constitutional remedy, but there are people who resonate to this remedy throughout most of their lives, and this should not be surprising, since it is a remedy for chronic complaints. When a remedy is the similimum for a chronic state, it generally covers the totality of the patent's characteristics, and this is just as true of Graphites as it is of more familiar constitutional remedies.

One of the reasons that Graphites is easily missed as a constitutional type is that Graphites people have few if any striking features. They are quiet, unassuming, gentle, matter of fact people, who would be described as 'normal' and 'pleasant' by most people who know them. Another reason they are easily missed is that they resemble several other types, both mentally and physically. A great many Graphites cases are given Calcarea, Pulsatilla and Natrum Muriaticum (without much effect), since these types have many features in common.
