Boneset has a straight, fleshy and cylindrical shaped stem that is covered with fine hairs. Usually, this perennial plant grows up to a height of two feet to four feet and is branched or divided at the peak. The plant produces large leaves that are about four inches to eight inches in length with the leaves at the lowest part of the plant being the biggest.

The leaves appear opposite to each other on the stem, are joined at the base of the plant and have edges that are delicately jagged. In addition, the leaves have very prominent veins, with a coarse upper surface. The leaves peter out to a sharp point and are soft, sticky and dotted on the underside.

In fact, the leaves of the boneset herb help to identify the species when you take a casual look at the plant. The leaves of this plant may be either regarded as divided by the stem, giving them the precise name perfoliate, or considered as having two oppositely appearing leaves joined at the base and, hence, termed connate botanically.

The large flowers of the plant appear at the terminals and in large numbers between the period of July and September. The flowers are somewhat convex comprising anything between 10 and 20 florets that possess hairy pappus. The bristles or hairs of the pappus are organized in a single line.

I am finding eupatorium perfoliatum 30c to be immensely helpful in relieving severe tooth or jaw pain after a filling replacement where apparently the bite was not quite right. I have bruxism and have been in considerable pain for almost 2 weeks.
This remedy gives almost immediate relief although at this potency, only for a few hours at a time. In the past hypericum 30c was always my first choice for tooth issues, but this time eupatorium p. is far more effective. It is also being used now for prevention and cure of dengue fever in Hawaii.
